Student life at “César Ritz”

At first, I was nervous moving to the small town of Le Bouveret but after staying here for a while I have really grown to love it. Often you meet with one or two other students to revise for a topic and can focus on your studies. On weekends students hit the student bar with its weekly themes and there are parties you’ll never forget. You also learn a lot about other cultures, how others think and about their values. Even if I‘m looking forward to my in-training, I love the place and I’ll miss all the sporting activities as well.

What I learn at “César Ritz” Colleges

Nine months have passed since I arrived and they were so packed that it feels like only three. Beside the academic subjects like cultural studies, marketing, accounting, languages, beverage, culinary and so on, I have also developed within myself and feel that I am more responsible and have a more professional approach. I also understand more about how to work and live with others from different cultures.

I chose the hospitality industry because I like to see people being happy. The international and glamorous feeling in a hotel is what makes me smile everyday. Giving the extra effort to please and satisfy a customer always fascinated me. Student life at “César Ritz”

With people from all corners of the world and all cultures, life at CRCS feels to me like a mini United Nations. Because of our different life experiences, we have to learn to accommodate each other. Moreover, as a Resident Assistant I’m the person students turn to for help resolving their problems. The courses at CRCS are challenging but the teachers, peer-to-peer tutoring and study halls are all there to help. It’s a very rewarding experience.

What I learn at “César Ritz” Colleges

Obviously I learn a lot in the classes but I also participate in some of the many extracurricular activities that give me a chance to hone my leadership skills. In addition to being a Resident Assistant, I was also on the Student Committee that organises events for the student body. From these activities I learned how to work as part of a team and how to be assertive with my peers.

Why the hotel and tourism industry

As a frequent traveller, I have stayed in many hotels and enjoyed superb service that put a smile on my face. Now I’d like to be the person that puts a smile on someone else’s face. I am genuinely concerned for the customers’ comfort and I take pride in going all-out for them. Even the irregular hours don't bother me at all since I love change. This is the industry for me.

Student life at “César Ritz”

The cultural mix is very interesting. It gives me the opportunity to learn something firsthand that I could never learn from a book.

For those of us who don’t have snow in our countries, skiing is definitely something to look forward to. Before I came to Switzerland I couldn’t imagine that there were places with snow year round. Now I can be on my skis in just forty minutes from the student dorms.

What I learn at “César Ritz” Colleges

Hospitality may look easy from the outside but there’s a lot more work behind the scenes in hotel and tourism management. In food & beverage I’ve learned just how much detail and calculation there is behind a menu. Global tourism has taught me that certain things we take for granted can have a negative effect on tourism. In my opinion, dealing with people is the hardest thing to master, yet there is no way around it. That’s what human resource management classes are for. In communication I’ve learned that no matter how clear I think I am being when I speak, my message can still be misunderstood.

It gives me a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment to serve and to know that my service is satisfactory. I like to entertain and see people enjoying a relaxing, happy atmosphere.

I had an idea of what I wanted to do but the programmes I found didn’t suit my needs. By chance, I came across “César Ritz” Colleges Switzerland (CRCS). I never regretted my choice. CRCS lived up to its reputation of excellence in hospitality and tourism management and also made me feel very welcome.

Student life at “César Ritz”

Imagine an idyllic landscape with beautiful lakes, snowy peaks and green meadows as far as the eye can see. Many might think it’s the perfect holiday getaway, but for me, it’s the place I’ve called home for the past two years: Switzerland.

Although I have been living in Switzerland for two years, I am still learning both inside and outside the classroom. Switzerland is a culturally-diverse country with a rich history and a unique way of life. Travelling within Switzerland is an experience all its own that reveals its many regional differences.

What I learn at “César Ritz” Colleges

With students from more than 60 countries, the student body at CRCS is very diverse. The courses are interactive, allowing students to expand their horizons by getting to know other people and cultures. Hospitality is mainly about direct contact with customers and at CRCS I developed my people skills by constantly applying what I learned in class. My internship was yet another opportunity to draw on my studies to improve my effectiveness. Hospitality is a very competitive field, and I believe these experiences will give me an edge when I enter the workforce.

My time here is running out but Switzerland will always have a special place in my heart because of the memories and experiences that I have had here. I highly recommend Switzerland to anyone wanting an excellent education in service.

I spent a year and a half searching for the right university for me. Among other things, I looked at the school’s reputation, the length of the programme and the entrance requirements. As soon as I heard about “César Ritz” Colleges Switzerland I knew I’d found exactly what I was looking for.

Student life at “César Ritz”

I began my MBA in Hospitality Management in October 2006. My classes were very enriching and fun as well. I especially liked working with people from around the world on team projects. It taught me to communicate and work through problems with all kinds of people in a business environment. The school staff is very friendly and professional, and they are always available to share their knowledge and answer questions.

Student life is never boring thanks to the Student Committee, which organises a host of events such as hiking trips, sports days, movie nights, parties and much more. I also really appreciate living in a multicultural environment where I can make friends from around the world. Switzerland is an amazing country with fantastic views. Its central location makes it easy to get just about anywhere in Europe.

Internships

As part of my MBA programme, I’m interning at Le Mirador Kempinski in Le Mont-Pèlerin as a Spa Receptionist. I have gained a wealth of experience in running a luxury hotel, providing high-quality service and speaking French. It’s not always easy because you have to keep smiling all day while answering endless questions, never saying “no” and knowing full-well that you have to work when everyone around you is on holiday. But these drawbacks melt away when you meet interesting people and see that you’re making other people happy.

Switzerland has completely changed my way of thinking and my attitude on life!

What I learn at “César Ritz” Colleges

“César Ritz” Colleges is a unique place because it is such a diverse college with more than fifty nationalities living, working and studying together. Every term I meet people from different parts of the world and I have learned so much from them. The beauty of studying here is the teacher and student relationship you build. The faculty is so dedicated in what they do that their passion radiates onto you as a student. In the dorms, the atmosphere is wonderful and for me it is my second home!

The most important skills I have learned so far from “César Ritz” Colleges are interpersonal and communication skills, which are the foundations for a good manager. Without these skills, it would be difficult to work with individuals from other countries while doing business, but also when trying to make friends.

How have you grown personally and professionally

I have become much more confident in my life, in terms of public speaking, voicing out my opinions, and following my professional and personal goals.

What I learn at “César Ritz” Colleges

I have learned many valuable things about the industry and about myself. The most insightful courses have been Leadership with Mr. London and Law with Mr. Cocker, but I have the utmost respect for many other members of staff too. Mr. Haynes is a fantastic Director who cares about his students and will always give you an honest opinion. Mr. Konrad is the best Campus Director Brig could ask for: I wish I had his patience! Ms. Gulbrandsoy encourages us all to aim high. Mr. Gross뭩 passion and knowledge for wine is admirable and I뭭e learned so much from him. Ms. Moore has sparked the competitive nature in me and taught me to think outside the box. But the most valuable lesson I뭭e learned at “César Ritz” Colleges is the importance of teamwork.

Having grown up as an expat I fell in love at a young age with the glamour of hotels, travel, and people. There are so many opportunities in this vast industry that one can never be bored.
